Southern Delaware Therapeutic Riding (SDTR) knows the best stories come from the source, of course, and that’s always a faithful, hard-working Horse. And a dedicated Rider. And a nurturing Instructor. So, we headed to the stable!
We asked SDTR Riders, Horses and Instructors to share their stories to show how your support can empower a difference in the lives of Riders like Oliver, his favorite SDTR Horse Stormy and their Instructor Keith.
Rider: Oliver Hastings
Q. Who is your favorite Horse and why?
Stormy because he is nice and gentle.
Q. What do you like best about being with Stormy?
I like being up high on Stormy’s back.
Q. How does Stormy make you feel?
When I first start riding, I feel nervous but then Stormy makes me feel strong and brave because I can tell him where to go and he listens.
Horse: Stormy
Q. What do you like best about being with Oliver?
I know that Oliver gets more out of our time together than just “a ride” on my back.
Q. How does Oliver make you feel?
Happy! Oliver and I always have the best time together. We do our “work,” and we have a lot of fun too!
Instructor: Keith McDonald
Q. What have you learned working with Oliver and Stormy?
I have learned that sometimes a certain horse and rider really connect as a team. I see that in Oliver and Stormy.
